Joseph Malham…Writer of Sacred Images

The images of Trinity Icons are based upon the images of Joseph Malham, an iconographer who has devoted a decade of his life to the pursuit of this sacred and ancient form of art.

Malham, whose studio is situated in a church on the north side of Chicago, is of Greek and Assyrian descent, and credits his Near East and Mediterranean heritage with his love of sacred art and iconography in particular. Malham studied art in Rome through Loyola University’s Rome Center and graduated with a BA in History from that same institution. Since 1999 Malham has been a full time iconographer and since 2001 he has been artist-in-residence at St. Gregory the Great Church in Chicago.

Using the traditional techniques and materials iconographers have utilized for centuries, Malham writes his icons on poplar panels in egg tempera and 23k gold leaf. His panels and icon banners, a meld of traditional Byzantine/Russian images and his own unique style, have been acquired by churches, institutions and individuals around the country, including Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, Archdiocese of Chicago, Catholic Charities of Chicago, 4th Presbyterian Church (Chicago), The Marianist Provincialate (St. Louis, MO) and numerous churches and institutions.

Joseph Malham joined Fine Art America on December 8th, 2009.
